IMPACT

Documentary films hold the power to drive meaningful change. With extensive experience in producing outreach and impact campaigns, we amplify the reach and influence of our own films. We also collaborate as impact producers on select external projects and have hosted impact workshops to share our expertise. Learn more about our impact-focused initiatives below.

CLIMATE STORY LAB NORDIC

Industry Workshop

In 2023/2024 the very first Climate Story Lab Nordic (CSLN) was organized by Differ Media and Hum Studio Interactive in collaboration with DocSociety, CPH:DOX, Sami film institute, Arctic indigenous film fund, Albaeco and Lund university.

The goal of the lab was to support climate storytellers and climate impact producers, strengthen the Nordic network, create debate about key climate communication issues, and explore ways to reach more diverse audiences as well as policymakers and other game changers in tackling our global climate emergency.

This first edition of the Climate Story Lab Nordic supported nine film teams working on powerful narratives and stories addressing climate change and climate justice from across the Nordic region.

THANK YOU FOR THE RAIN

Impact Campaign

We created an extensive campaign for the release of our climate feature Thank You For The Rain (2017). The campaign put protagonist Kisilu’s story on the global stage and inspired new climate friendly policies and projects in Kenya including 30 new tree planting groups and planning for irrigation model farming.

In 2020, the campaign was awarded Doc Soiety’s DocImpactHi5 award. Read more about the results in the impact case study and on the film’s website.

The impact campaign was made possible through the support of Doc Society, Good Pitch, Climate Justice Resilience Fund, Bertha Connect, Heinrich Böll Foundation, Fritt Ord Foundation Arts Council Norway, Ford Foundation and Bergesenstiftelsen.

WITH GRACE

Impact Campaign

We are developing a campaign for our film With Grace (2024) aiming to amplify the voices of children impacted by climate change, support affected families, and empower youth globally to lead climate conversations within their communities.

The campaign is a collaboration between Differ Media and Kenya-based Dhamira Films, with activities in Kenya, Norway, and beyond. Learn more about the film and campaign withgracefilm.com

An Army of Women

Impact Campaign

Our film An Army of Women (2024) tells the story of a landmark lawsuit in the area of sexual assault, and has enormous potential to create structural and cultural change and put sexual assault on the agenda.

Working with Together Films and the film’s participants, we are developing an campaign to launch in April 2025. The vision for a wide-reaching campaign is to ensure that survivors are met with support and belief. On a structural level, the goal is to make sexual assault crimes a priority within the legal system.

Since the film’s world premiere at SXSW on International Women’s Day 2024, we have conducted special impact screenings for law enforcement agencies, elected officials, and professionals working to combat sexual assault.

The film is directed by Nathan Grossman and produced by B-Reel Films. Differ Media came onboard to run the Norwegian impact campaign, which including partnering with grassroots youth organizations to support the launch of the film. The Scandinavian Impact Campaign was supported by The Fritt Ord Foundation & B-Reel Films

THE RESILIENT

Impact Campaign

With our documentary The Resilient (2019), we wanted to foster debate about the links between climate change and food production and to increase climate awareness.

In Norway, as in many other countries, farmers are especially vulnerable to the effects of climate change.  At the same time, rural communities in Norway are far less engaged in climate issues than urban communities.

For the campaign, we partnered with The Development Fund and The Norwegian Farmer's Association on a community screening campaign to reach rural audiences and farmers across Norway. In 2019-2020, the film was screened in 40 rural communities across Norway, as well as at research centers and key political events. In France, Festival Alimenterre hosted more than 100 screenings, many in rural communities to raise awareness on climate change and agriculture.
